Belkin WEMO

mobile app - UX/UI
Project Overview
Smart home services are becoming more affordable and popular in society. Belkin Wemo was one of the first companies to launch its light control product and devices such as a coffee machine or an smart contact plug.
My Contributions
The original WEMO app turned out to be far from perfect. Before starting the design, I defined its basic problems encountered by the user during its daily operation. I also decided to completely change the visual side of the application to make using it also more pleasant.

process

Why do people need an application to control devices smart at home?
It's a convenient way to control the atmosphere at home from the couch level. Let's imagine the situation when after a long day at work you sit on the sofa and want to watch your favorite movie. You forgot to turn off the lights in the bedroom and hall after entering the house.

Thanks to the Wemo application, you have all these possibilities at your fingertips. You can also set the coffee machine to turn on in the morning at a specific time when you are just waking up.

The original Wemo application was very uncomfortable and buggy. It also had a lot of technical problems hindering its daily use such as long waking up time, problems with finding your devices in the apartment and accidental crash. I decided that the user needs to quickly turn on the desired level of light without thinking about which sources are lit and which not - this is how the predefined and customized scenes were created. Relax, Energize or Active - you choose what you are currently doing. The app also allows you to select the color and intensity of light to even better meet your preferences and mood.
When it comes to the visual design of the app, I decided to let the user to choose a dark and light theme to make the evening usage even more pleasant to the eye. In addition, the theme would change itself depending on the time of a day and time zone to correctly match the external conditions.
